Mz. Venom

I was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut; raised in a single-parent home with three other siblings. I wrote when I was between the ages of thirteen and fifteen, with dreams of one day becoming a writer; writing novels and screenplays. I used to write my own songs and sing my heart out, but was too shy to pursue a singing career. But at eighteen, I wrote my first gospel song for a friend’s father whom was in a band. That was something I enjoyed doing, but my main focus was on writing. Even though my father didn’t live with us and spent half of my childhood in jail, he saw talent in me the way I wrote poetry. He told me I could do it and make a name for myself. My mother said I could do anything I put my mind and heart too, because I came from talented parents in a matter of speaking. My father’s talent came from hustling; my mother’s talent was art and poetry. My older sister has similar talent in writing, but she loves fashion. My older brother writes rhymes and freestyles. In my life after dropping out of high school, I didn’t have enough confidence to chase my dreams. It took my parents and my kids to give me the confidence and encouragement I needed to go hard at what I always wanted to do. My daughter, Nyazia son and Nyqwon love to write just as much as me. That alone is enough inspiration and encouragement to continue to pursue my goals and accomplish my dreams. Writing isn’t a hobby for me, it’s a job, a career that will follow me until the end of time and I am dedicated to giving people a story they can enjoy and relate to. I am thankful to be a part of something that is so big and great.
